Car accidents can be devastating -- there is no doubt about it. However, when a motorcycle is involved, things can go from bad to worse. While passengers in a car have the metal frame of the vehicle to protect them from impact, motorcyclists have nothing shielding them in a crash. Sadly, a recent Florida collision was the latest example of the tragedy that can arise when motorcyclists are hit by other vehicles.

Not long ago, a Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputy was killed while on duty. The 53-year-old was operating a motorcycle in Alamonte Springs when another vehicle made a left turn in front of him. The deputy collided with the passenger side of the car. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the deputy was wearing a helmet when the motorcycle accident occurred.

The driver of the car that made the left turn, a 49-year-old man, was in critical condition after the crash. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to the Florida Highway patrol accident report, charges are pending. The deputy who was killed had served on the police force for 24 years.

As this accident clearly shows, motorcycle crashes can be extremely dangerous and even deadly. Unfortunately, some people put the blame on motorcyclists for not driving safer vehicles. However, experienced Florida attorneys know that motorcyclists have every right to operate their vehicles on the state's roads. Hopefully tragic accidents like this one will encourage Florida motorists to keep a close watch on the road for motorcyclists who may be driving in their areas.
